Fine arts provides a one stop solution for all you aesthetic lovers out there. It is generally not meant for the utility purpose but to calm the cravings for all the artful and inventive souls of this world. The expression of fine arts is done by producing art objects by making use of visual and performing art forms.

Some of these performing art forms include: dance, theater, painting, sculpture, photography and printmaking. Fine arts is often associated with classic or academic art, when taught in institutions like school and colleges.

"Imitation, then, is one instinct of our nature. Next, there is the instinct for 'harmony' and rhythm, meters being manifestly sections of rhythm. Persons, therefore, starting with this natural gift developed by degrees their special aptitudes, till their rude improvisations gave birth to Poetry." -Aristotle

As far as this particular definition by Aristotle, the Greek philosopher, is concerned, it tends to exclude visual art forms. But a lot of people get confused when they refer to the Fine Arts but actually mean the Performing Arts (that is theater and all that).

But at some places, the difference is almost nil. At York University, Fine Arts is taught as a subject that includes the "traditional" fine arts, design, and the "Performing Arts". Furthermore, the writing that has creative aspects is also considered as fine arts.
