Literature is an art of writing. It has many meanings. Some say that it refers to stories, poems and millions of words that have become classics over time.
Of course, everyone has their own definitions.
The term actually means "acquaintance with letters" (from Latin littera, letter). So if an interpretation of the term is done, it is seen that the existence of oral literature holds a very little significance as the meaning of the term in Latin states “written” format. But still it exists! As far as the western culture is concerned, the most basic written literary types involves fiction and non-fiction, as form of Literature.
The main form of literature, that is of course, considered as a book, has a great role in the formation of our society today. When those high-tech entertainment devices like Television and Computers were not invented, there was not much else to do other than reading books. Therefore books helped in forming the true values in our ancestors, although we, as younger generation have grown up watching TV and playing PCs games, books as literature have indirectly inculcated those values in us as well.
