Dictionary is a reference book, where we can find alphabetically listed words. It focuses on defining individual words and phrases and provides their multiple meanings, etymologies, pronunciations, synonyms, derivation and numerous other information. Language dictionary is the most commonly used dictionary that comprises the majority of frequently used words in a language. Such dictionaries are made for different types of users, such as scholars, schools, office workers and second language learners. Dictionaries are mostly found in the form of books, however, online dictionaries are also available on the Internet.
A glossary is a list of specialised terms with definitions. Commonly, glossaries are found at the end of a book or in software manuals and these are meant to help readers understand various terms. A glossary usually focuses on terms in a particular domain of knowledge which the readers may find unfamiliar. Glossaries cover a wide range of terms, concepts and definitions and this is why students often use these as study tools. These also help many as a tool to explore something new. A bilingual glossary focuses on terms in one language and are defined in a second language or another language. The difference between a glossary and a dictionary is that the former usually focuses on terms which the reader probably does not know, but the later contains every word or concept possible!
