Generally, it is a collection of beliefs and practices that are based on the idea that there is a supernatural world, that Man can "tap into" through secret, special knowledge and rituals.
Common occult activities include Ouija boards, fortune-telling, astrology, witchcraft, tarot cards, voodoo, palm reading, etc. Most occult groups have levels of knowledge and new "converts" are only told a little of their beliefs. They are allowed to learn more only as they prove their 'loyalty' and become involved in the group's core activities.
New age is a term used for beliefs and practices based on the idea that mankind is about to enter into a "new age" of peace, prosperity and enlightenment, brought about by his own efforts to change himself. Many proponents of this belief hold that man will be able to do this as a result of contact with 'higher spiritual beings."
The term "New Age Movement" is a fairly recent term, though most of the ideas have been around since long ago. New age ideas come from humanism, eastern religions, paganism, etc. There is no single group or groups that define this movement.
Examples of new age ideas include reincarnation, transcendental meditation, "channeling", or belief that special physical/spiritual power is available through certain rituals or objects.
